Art Week

The children were very creative last week, during our school Art Week.  They rotated around the junior classes, creating different pieces of art in each room.  Here are some of the activities they did:

                           Print Making in Room 8

Love Letters in Room 2
The children created the initial letter of their name in paper mosaics.  These letters will be sent to Starship Hospital and given to children to decorate their room with the letters of their name.

Paper Mache Insects and Spiders

The children have worked really hard to complete their paper mache insects and spiders.  First they needed to scrunch up news paper and tape it, to make the basic shape of their chosen bug.  They had to think carefully about their bug: How many legs? How many body parts? Where do the legs attach to? Does it have antennae or pedi-palps? How many eyes?  The children put 2 layers of ripped up newspaper on it, then completed it with a layer of paper towel to give it texture.

They worked out what colours they wanted to paint it. Once the paint was dry, they attached the eyes and pipe cleaners to complete their bug.  The finished bug was given two coats of clear sealer.  The children are really proud of their finished products.
