Room One and Eight had a great time visiting Hamilton Zoo. Our main purpose was to Visit Waiwhakareke Reserve to do an in-depth bug study. The children had plastic trays, which they used to catch bugs and insects in. They placed these under branches and leaf matter and shook vigorously. They managed to catch many different species of insects, spiders and other bugs. Once they caught them, they needed to identify them, with the help of a parent helper, cards and books.
After investigating bugs, lunch and a short play, we all enjoyed having a good look at the animals. We particularly enjoyed seeing the giraffes being feed and finding out more about them. The tiger cub followed us along the fence line, just as fascinated by us as we were of him. We had a few tired legs walking back to school, but a great day was had by all!
